I think I may have a problem with my MAF sensor, I have read the various threads regarding disconnecting it but am still unclear.......If I disconnecct the MAF sensor, should I hear/feel a difference immediately or do I need to take the car for a drive before any potential improvement is felt?

I disconnected my MAF sensor plug whilst the engine was on tickover (I was in the process of diagnosing a problem)

When I disconnected the plug to the sensor there was a very noticeable difference, to the point where it nearly stalled.

I think I can remember having to switch the engine off and starting again for the rangie to 'recognise' the fact you have plugged the MAF plug back in.....

Hope this helps

It should be immediate. The idea is that if there is a difference then you can assume the MAF sensor is working. If there is no change it means the MAF sensor is not sending a signal anyway. Note this test does not prove that it is working well, just that it is on.

OK , Thanks both.....Will try later, failing that will risk getting shocked by removing each of the HT leads in turn:eek: to see if the problem lies there......

Surely it's a better idea to diagnose it properly. A couple of minutes pm the proper diagnostics gear or even a cheap old USB obd plug and software will give you the readings from the maf. Compare these readings with known good ones and you have your answer.

STOP!!!! dissconecting the ht leads could blow your coil pack
what you need is a ht lead tester that fits between the plug cap and spark plug to see if the leads and coil pack are at fault :)
