Just had the "mad moment" and brought 1977 88" swb petrol series 3... Have always had old discos, so this my first real landy. Will I'm sure have loads to ask over next months, but to start: switches on dash.. there is one which looks like it should put back light on for dash board, not working. How hard to replace and where do I get bulbs from? Oh and horn stopped working on way home from purchase. love it though.

Hooray! Well done.
Yes, one of those switches does put the dash clock lights on. Might not be the bulbs. I had a poor connection in the switch, but a multimeter with a continuity bleep is very helpful, you can test the bulbs like this too.

I'd reccommend buying the LR Repair Operation Manual AKM 3648/4 - Haynes is not much cop, nice supplementary book if you see a bargain but the Haynes Restoration manual is quite good, lots of photos.

Then download a parts catalogue. Invaluable. Great diagrams and the exact part numbers you need.

Or download the manual

Funnily enough My switch needs replacing, too. There's two sorts of bulb behind the dash, MES screw cap bulbs and a bayonet type with ridges instead of pins - can't remember which are the warning and which are the illumination. They should be a couple of watts, 12V.

second mad moment was last night when Ifound the bulb does work!!!!! only when headlights also on. Doh! Thanks for advice and will look at getting book ASAP
