Just been offered a set of Mach 5 wheels complete with part worn cooper AT tyres by an old mate I've not seen for ages. He has changed from a defender to a discovery2 and they won't fit obviously. Only problem is they are 15" and I have only ever run 16" on my previous discos is it worth going for them?

He is looking for about £350

Sounds like a bargain to me. Brand new they are about £150 each without tyres. And your getting a set of 4/5 with A/T tyres for £350. I'd snatch his hand off!

Been to see them today. Really good condition, and the tyres are about 1/2 worn.

What's the benefit of 15" over 16" rims. The tyres are quite chunky so the overall diameter is probably the same as the 16" on the car?

A lot of tyres going into bigger rolling radius are on 15" wheels if they are measured in overall height I think it's as simple as that there seem to be usually 33/ 10.5/15
I have 16" machs so the tyres I wanted are 285/75/16
Not the overall height measurement
So no benefit to 15" rims and no loss except its way easier to work rolling radius out! :D

15 inch wheels with the same tyre height give you a bigger sidewall and so when you lower pressures off-road you can get a larger footprint, small difference really though :)

Buy them and sell them on at a profit. Don't put them on your Landy though: awful looking things, don't suit Defenders at all.

What he said ^^^

Challenge trucks use them as there is more side wall available if/when needed.

For £350 i wouldnt have asked the question, take em before he realises!

I bought 5 new mach5's direct from matt lee with 285/75/16 KM2's for £1500 i think last year
