HELP!!! Have a Range 2.5 DSE. Throttle pedal has an intermittent fault. Running fine then you go to pull away and bio response from the throttle pedal. No Engine Management Light so no OBD2 code. Had same issue on a Mercedes Benz a few years ago. Similar type of system. On that occasion replaced pedal and problem solved.
Back to Rangey. Bought a brand new throttle potentiometer for the pedal, which worked for a few days then same problem. I am presuming that problem is at the distributor pump. Obviously this is an expensive part to repair and replace. Is there any way of replacing the actuator in the pump or is there another component I have overlooked?

Do you get the injector icon flash on when you lift of the throttle as that would indicate the fuel quantity servo in the injection pump
How many miles on the clock
The p38 is not obd compliant it need dedicated diag like nanocom which will read the throttle imput and all the pump info.

The p38 doesnt have a MIL light, and the diesel isnt OBDII compliant either. You'll need specific diag

Your biggest mistake will be presuming anything :p.
Map sensor on the side of the fuel filter, there is a little pipe that runs under the inlet manifold. These can drop off and sometimes course an issue.
Diagnostic is needed to check if there is anything in its memory to guide you onto the next step.

Thanks for such a prompt response Brian. Haven't noticed injector light but Engine Management Light sometimes flashes when pressing pedal from idle. Mileage just over 87000.
Does explain why my OBD2 reader didn't work. Is the Fuel Quantity Servo a replaceable part?

I did clean the MAP sensor using the correct spray and checked for leaking or disconnected vacuum hoses. This can go for days without problem.

Thanks Mark.

Try entering your car as a BMW 525TD with the same engine. Sorry I can't remember what year and model but that works on my 1995 P38 Diesel. Engine only data though no other systems.

If the quantity servo is the problem then its case of a recon pump at 600 notes.
