Lucas oil stabilizer???

going to change the oil and filter tomorrow and noticed this Lucas oil stabilizer along side the oils in the shop,looked good stuff so i bought a bottle but now i am wondering if i should stilck some in or not?

My landy has always been run on fully synthetic oil 5/30 grade from day one and even though iv'e now got over 165000 miles on the clock it uses not a drop between each service (8000 miles) what do you guys think i should do i

have now heard both good and bad reports about this product

I put some in engine (300tdi)
Gearbox (R380)
Transfer box (disco one)

No problems but did notice gearbox was tight untill it warmed up!
But don't thrash it from cold anyway

i'd be wary ..
if td4 has been running fine .. with regular changes of the recommended stuff ..

iv'e now got over 165000 miles on the clock it uses not a drop between each service

why chance it ..

if it is an 'oil thickener' .. i'd certainly not use it as the uk temps. are starting to drop ..
winter temps. are only just around the corner ..

you could always save it 'n use it for assembly purposes .. or whatever ..

i'd wait 'n see / hold out .. for some more opinions / points-of-view ..

Thanks for the replies, what caught my eye on the bottle was the protecting the enging when starting from cold I.E up in the cylinder head area valves etc etc.
in the shop there was a little set of cog wheels one filled with oil only and the other filled with a mixture of the lucas stuff, i must admit when turning the handle on both the cogs the lucas oil sticks much better to the top cog where as the oil only drops back to the sump area very very quickly
i am tempted but don't want to clog the engine up and do any damage

you won't do either, used in North america includes canada,alaska and north west terriorty where it is a hell of alot colder. Worst thing on start up is lack of oil for those few seconds

If you are using oil that meets the engine requirement then there is no need for extra additives!!

No. Do you? I have been in the automotive industry for 25 years so have extensive knowledge in engines and oils and there uses!! It's true most engine damage occurs due to lack of lubricant but weather this stuff prevents that is anybody's guess? This question has nothing to do with my knowledge though!! If the engine needed it then the car manufacture would specify it at the time of the oil change which they don't !! Infact most manufacturers won't honour the warranty if oil additives are used and the engine designers do have engineering degrees

Well i'll let you know how i get on as i put the whole bottle in along with the 5 litres or so of engine oil so far so good nothing bad has happend

Does it not say use 10%!!!

I think you're only supposed to use the whole bottle if the engine is 'slack', a whole bottle must surely be enough to significantly alter the viscosity of the oil

it says use 1 quart for every 2 quarts of oil (just gotta love the yanks) or 20%
if my reckoning is right 1quart =2 pints my sump holds nearly 7 litres of oil which eqatates to 12.3 pints
keep up im nearly there LOL hence the reason why i stuck the whole bottle in there
hope this makes sense im confused now but hey the engine feels really tight almost like new and there are no knocks bangs also the temprature is slightly cooler
