Hi all
can anyone give me any advice on the LS3 conversion
i have a Defender icon 2013 205BHP but the garage are swapping it for the LS3 with six speed auto
box they have hit a couple of issues one is the air con pump hits the steering box
so we have to lose the pump
two is the passenger side header sits on top of the chassis
three is the transfer box needs swapping to an older model as the newer one the spigot hits
the ECU plug on the gearbox
we can get around the problems
no air con.
swap the transfer box.
have headers made.
all costs i didnt expect

I have been to the garage and seen the issues
this is why i have joined the forum for advice.
we also bought all the mounting kit from Marks 4x4 to mount this engine in a defender
are you saying we shouldnt have any of these issues ?

Not sure, but I don't think that many people on here have your kind of land rover....
Just asking out of ignorance here, but converting/ upgrading to that LS3, just how many more horses are you getting over the 205 you started with?

I meant what your wrote was confusing and difficult to read.

LS3s are about 450 as standard. Though I doubt you will get much help here, try the likes of Nene Overland, if they are willing

Hi she will be at about 530 HP as a standard LS3.
the other engine had a four speed auto box fitted by ICON and it was constantly reving its head of just to move

Nene Over land wont help they just want 30K to do it
the LS3 manual says she is 530 hp from parts world

See most of the companies that do the conversions are pretty tight lipped about them.

I assume you are uprating the rest of the drive train to deal with the torque?

A couple of off the wall thoughts, based mostly on being near-ish to Retford and reputable engineers

Drew Bowler Motorsport in Belper, Derbyshire, they do a fast road Defender conversion themselves and are true craftsmen

Alan Smith Garages in Derby - indie LR specialists, when I lived in Derbyshire not much seemed to faze them

If you give them both a ring, even if they don't think they can help they might be able to come up with some ideas?

Hi thanks for the info I will call some of the guys mentioned and see what they say.
As regards the drive train I think it's a Ashcroft transfer box and I think
They are leaving the original wolf diff on front and back

Got to remember your pushing 600 - 700nm of torque through a landy that was designed to take around 400nm or so. Might be wrong but would you not have issues snapping drive shafts/CVs/flanges?

I'd get the HD cross pin in the TX box too that or the ATB.

Got to promise to put some pics and videos up! :D
