In this months LROi is a Greenlaning Handbook with 20 of the' Best Greenlanes' in the UK in it

Number 5 is based on an area of the Somerset Wetlands, including SSSI's and nature reserves.

All bar three of the routes narked are private access routes to pasture - the three that aren't are tarmaced public roads.

All these private routes are dead end with no turning points; they are bounded by very deep drainage ditches, built from clay over willow bundles. They are called summer droves - the name gives it away

Driving droves that are NOT marked as UCR's and are not on the county definative map is illegal

The local RoW offices form Somerset County Council has been informed as have the land owners - they are not happy bunnies

Illegal use will result in the loss of the offenders vehicle and some big fines!

Please post this on other forums

Many thanks

Sounds about right for LRO, The Magazine and the Forum is run by a bunch of tossers, whose only interest is making money, and they haven't got a clue about landrovers or what landrover owners want or think. Their decision to take over Billing and run it on the same weekend as the Newark show, purely to **** off LRM. Being the clearest example of that lack of care or concern for the rest of us.

I agree that LRO do sometimes cock up and when they were in cornwall they sent us down a private lane, but what you say is not necessarily true. There are loads of lanes which are driveable and are not marked on the definitive map, which are legally roads by virtue of historic use and the useless councils just haven't got round to classifying them or are too scared of neighbouring landowners reactions. If it says "unsuitable for motors" at the start, it should be OK!

They wouldnt know a green lane if one hit them in the face. i thought it was a complete load of crap with stupid little lanes that are just roads that you go down and turn around. how can they be "20 best lanes"
Where was Strata Florida? surely this is one of the best?
You'd think being a popular magazine they would strive to being factually correct in their reports, but evidently just a bunch of pencil pushers!

Bunch of ****ers would be more like it. They're promoting this Landrover traders Association as the new best thing since sliced bread. But in reality it's just all the LRO contributors trying to exert influence over the rest of the trade and dictate where the shows should be held.

there's something on the devon4x4 site about when the members of that association had a meeting very recently and the LRO advertising manager got ****ed and started wanting to fight everyone

Nope it was Nick King the LRM advertising sales manager. But as it's LRO trying to spread the rumour, I'd take it with a pinch of salt. they certainly had an arguement but the LRO version isn't the same as others recollection of events.

Tis gone now but it took its time!

Talking of burning newspaper, in accordance with the other fires fred, have you ever tried those things you can get on ebay which claim to be able to compress newspaper into burnable logs?

that's a very good question - was pondering getting one of those meself, maybe adding a little used engine oil to up the heat output and to help bond them together perhaps

Might be spectacular...i'll keep me eyes open for the mushroom cloud over Staffs way! :D:D:D

We got a paper recycling bank out the back and i thought seeing as there's normally piles of unread newspapers tied up in bundles next to it, if i could heat my house with it then it might be a good use of them!

Think there are 2 sorts, one is a tube which compresses it dry and might benefit from a bit of oil, the other you turn it into a kind of papier mache and compress it - maybe papier mache using oil!

great minds think alike !

when you've gorra wood burner there is a great temptation to throw everything that is even slightly combustable in it (seeing as it'll be free heat) - just to see if and how it burns - or is that just me

Definitely not just you, i think it's the latent pyromania coming out! Why pay for warmth when there's so many other good free sources!?

People tend to dump old furniture and smaller wood there too which has provided family odd with many a warm evening!

Only problem with newspaper is the amount of ash, i suppose coz it burns so fast, so thought maybe compressing it a bit might make it burn better (slower) too.

Now ya talking :D :D

Well i havnt paid for a mag for about 3 years. my mate gets them and i read them, normally for all of 2 minutes and we get them at work cos we advertise in a couple of them. Its just the same old **** everytime, oh look, another v8 90. How to change a light bulb, how to bolt on £10,000 worth of bling accessories. Then when you actually get something useful like a greenlane guide its the size of a stamp and completely ****ing useless! Does my ****ing head in!
