Hi, I have a 2006 LR3 HSE that has a problem with the suspension. I replaced the compressor and (relay) a wee while ago but found that the rear drivers side sat slightly lower than the rear passenger side. I recently upgraded to 20" with Continental tyres and am now experiencing a very uncomfortable ride. On a smooth surface it is fine but you hit the smallest bump (i.e cats eyes) and it's like you have hit a big pot-hole. Before I go and spend a wee fortune at the dealers, has anyone experienced the same problems. The suspension moves up and down as it should and it isn't losing any air, tried the soapy water trick on all the pipes and checked the heights overnight. Any guidance would be appreciated. Cheers

Hello, are you aware that the D3 has a front and rear servo unit that controls how much air goes to each air bag. If it sits down at the front then that is where you are going.

Hi smiler1, I was aware that the front and back had separate servo units. The front sits as it should, it is the rear that is out of kilter. I wouldn’t have thought that if the rear was slightly out it would make such a difference in the ride comfort. It feels like it is being driven on the ‘bumpstops’ when it isn’t.

hi

what are these servos u mention plse, unless u mean the valve cross over blocks

if u put the suspension into normal height , measuring from the centre of the wheel to underneath the wheel arches what are the measurements in mm of each wheel plse

what size wheel and tyres did u have before and what size tyres do u have now plse

also what is the side wall weight marking , thks

Suspect it’s the lowers profile tyres are the problem, it at least you coz get round corners quicker !

was thinking that ref the tyres , awaiting for when the op reports back the size of the old and new tyres

also asked for the measurements of the wheels in normal height to see if it’s within spec

also can’t see the point of low profiles fitted on a 4x4 , can u imagine how long they would last off road , lol

Aye, less time than you'd expect  .... :D

I'm gonna need new tyres soon - and I'm completely over thinking a change from 235/70, to 255/65 !! o_O

Anyway, cos I'm bored, I had a look at the Kouki tyre size comparator...

:)

Assuming standard tyre size of a D3 of 255/60 R18, (rolling Radius of 239.77cm), then a change to R20 means a reduction to 55% -> I.E 255/55 R20 with a rolling rad of 239.7cm .... thing is, from what I have seen, I don't think this is an approved size for a D3 (? - o_Ohopefully I'm wrong - @gstuart - is this right ?? Edit to add - see the HSE's could have 20" wheels  ).

@samdanshacha - what pressures are you running ?

( when we bought SWMBO's Disco, the tyres were at 45psi all round  - struth and daylight it was a bone shaker !)

Biggest std wheel on the D3 was 19 inch, on the D4 I think it was 20.
Any car with drug dealer big wheels and low profile tyre is going to give a carp ride, it really is that simple.

i think the max size tyre u can use is 31.5 inches diameter on a D3 before it starts to rub on the arch

trouble is also is the weight loading , which i also believe should be a min of 111T , 1200 kg

have seen some fitting 22inch wheels , beyond me why , along with speedo error , ins premiums increase and even pot holes would cause problems

Hi, just managed to get round to taking some pics, as you can see it seems to 'list' on the rear drivers side. Got it booked in on Monday to recalibrate the suspension to see if that makes the difference.

36psi on the back and 33 on the front

It’s the 50 profile tyres that are hideous, imo, yes it will corner responsibly but as you are finding , the ride will be harsh, and it won’t go far on slippery surfaces off tarmac, imo
Just an opinion, no offence intended
