Hi all, just bought a Range Rover 4.2 L reg Classic LSE LWB, and must say what a car, she does need work but well worth the time to keep her on the road, so the problem she has gas in the cylinder and idles ok but if you rev her the controll unit on the clicks and cuts the car out, she is ok on petrol any ideas, also anyone got any parts "Tail gate top and bottom, rear bumper etc Thanks Phill
 
first of all change the filters..and check it actually has gas in tank..gauges are crap!

So are you saying it won't switch to gas it idles on petrol but when you rev to switch it just dies
or
will it idle on gas but not rev/drive?
 
You switch it to gas and idles fine, but once you rev her something clicks at the tank and she dies, then you have to switch back to petrol
 
Do you mean you're flicking the switch to turn to gas while idling on petrol? On my single point system you flick the switch then rev the engine, the safety valve at the tank clicks as you say, there's a slight hesitation while the gas comes through, have to keep the revs up a bit to stop it dying, then you're on gas. As has been said, check there's gas in the tank and nothing's blocked.
 
If i were you with a new car (to you) take it to a reputable gas fitter and get the system checked out and servced. While ther watch how he sets thesystem up with his laptop, its not rocket science. Go home download free software buy a lead and copy the system settings. then when it goes tits up next time you just re-write the settings back to the ecu.
Most gas fitters are happy to show you whats what and explain the setup, mine even emailed me the settings after he had finished.

PS, just cos there is gas in the tank dosent mean it will run ok, lpg will only ever use about 80% of the tank. ie you will only ever use about 70l of gas from a 90l tank. try putting more gas in her it may well idle but then cut out when more demand is put on the system as it cant provide enough gas pressure.
 
all depends upon the system..what is it?make and model?

does it have an ecu?might not if old,

but if it does it may well have a gas pessure sensor,that monitors pressure,if drops beow a preset level it drops back to petrol,this is to stop the engine being damaged by too weak a mixture..blocked filters will cause this (as well as no gas!)

also if no ecu should have a saftey relay that will only allow gas through if engine running,(monitors low tension on coil)these can go tits up...too many variables...what make is it???
