 Hi, I've got a 98 300 TDI Disco auto. At about 1500rpm the engine check light comes on and the engine loses power, I move the the throttle either up or down the light goes out and all is well up to full revs or back to tick over. The problem is making the motor almost undriveable at low speed speed. Any help or ideas would be very welcome

sounds like you have a problem with the throttle pedal coz on autos i think they are fly-by wire so they dont have a throttle cable.it could be something like a faulty throttle position sensor which is located in the pedal box.i know that on the autos there are also quite a few other sensors that could also be the cause of your problem.the haynes manual has a section dedicated to the EDC system that your auto probably uses. i am only guessing as to what is wrong as mine is a manual and is just a simple setup!

good luck!

Hi Harv

This sounds very similar to the problem I currently have on my 98 300 TDI ES Auto.
I took mine to a local Land Rover Specialist, Steve Hill in Bristol (Top Guy by the way!)

Steve stuck the old girl on the diagnostic machine and told me the problem was with the Throttle Potentiometer. Unfortunately this part is on the pricey side.

My advice would be, go to a local L/R Specialist and get the diagnostic test done and go on from there.

if it is the potentiometer it is on the end of your throttle pedal and has a plug going to it.im not sure but if you can take it apart you could try cleaning it with some electrical contact cleaner as it is only a contact that moves up and down a coil of wire to give different resistances.

Thanks Guys, Disco as been to local experts and it is the Throttle Potentiometer and yes it is very expensive but problem solved.
