Low range

Low is also used to help control speed on steep descents or where you may lose traction and need more torque.

low 1st is very useful at gates.... aproach the gate in low 1 hop out , open the gate , wait for vehicle to go throuh , then shut gate and hop back in.
we used to use a series feeding hay to cattle out in the fields... set it going in low 1st..hop in the back with the hay and chuck bits out as it trundled up the field. saves a lot of walking and the risk of being bowled over by the bullocks rushing for the hay.
low reverse is also useful when reversing a trailer..

Asked a question didn't ask for a f**k whit comment!!! I have idea of using it but just what situations! There's banter then just plain f**k whit comments

Fully agree with you mate. Unfortunately LZ has more than its fair share of retards. You had done a search without success, it was quite reasonable to ask the question.

As for some of the answers:doh:.
The last time I looked the sticks tell you how to engage the low ratios, not when - which is what you asked.

Perhaps Bobdog should be asked to demonstrate this switching to low ratio at 50 mph in his own vehicle just to show us his technique - but he probably drives a Suzuki Jimny.

Anyone can RTFM, but I don't know many owners of 2.5NAs who can actually remember when they last saw their manuals.

What too many people on this forum seem to forget is that they weren't born with an intimate knowledge of the combustion engine, but had to learn along the way - often by asking seemingly simple questions.

Thankfully you received helpful answers in the end and I hope your experience doesn't put you off from future participation in the forum. Furthermore, if at some point in the future you are able to answer a question on the forum, I hope that you answer it with a bit more respect than shown to you by some of the cretinous amoeba on this thread.

on a side note, does anyone know what the cigarette lighter is for in my vehicle?

Mine powers me laptop, which runs Autoroute and Memory Map which combine to get me to lanes, guide me along lanes, and keep a record of where I've been .. and guide me home again ... ;)

lick your finger and put it in there then you may find out!

On another note its great for charging your phone ;)

Or indeed various other battery powered devices, i.e. curling tongs or vibrators etc for Hippo and his err.... 'friends':eek::eek::eek:

Stick with it pal, there is ALWAYS some brilliant information inbetween the abuse and **** taking, but don't bite, it just makes the inmates worse;););););)

I find it funny that some people think its beneath them to answer some ones simple question, IF you cant be arsed to help folk stick to the social networking side of LandyZone
I wouldnt mine but you thrive on trying to show how knowledgeable you think you are

edited fer accuracy :smokin::smokin:

this topic is actually covered verry well in the series section called

ere wots all them levers for ???

it doesnt take a satnav to search for that

I use it when i get stuck :wack:

Low 3rd is about the same ratio as Hi 1st so at P&P days i tend to drive around in Low 3rd and 4th and use 1st and 2nd when required. Saves keep changing between hi and low. Very rarely use low when laning :)

harsh...
I apologise for trying to have a sense of humour, I realise some people are not mechanically minded but i thought my comment was stupid enough not to be taken seriously. Anyone with a basic knowledge of driving, knows you don't throw the car into low gear at 50mph!
Anyway, in the interests of helpful information, if you don't use it often, it is a good idea to engage the tranfer box and run it through the gears every week or so to keep it lubricated and stop it seizing up when you do need it.

Does it do that on idle or do you have to use the hand throttle? Haven't been brave enough to stick my Series in low yet! Been too busy repairing bits!
