I don't think the faults are connected. The cruise control problem is usually a split pipe going to the actuator (back of the engine comp passenger side).
You don't say whether your bus is a manual or auto. If it's a manual, it could be the neutral switch (you were in neutral weren't you?) or the actuator for the switch in the gearbox. Or it could be the actuator motor itself. Do you get any messages on the dash when you try to select low range? Easiest (if you don't mind crawling underneath) and cheapest thing to try first is to link out the neutral switch if you have a manual and see if it works then.
Just a word about forum etiquette - don't use CAPITALS all the time - it's the equivalent of shouting. Cheers.

If it's a diesel, I think the cruise control is operated by the engine ECU:D

sorry gang motor is a 96 dse like the computer its brand new to me im still trying find out how they both work? Hammer n chisel will have to stay in the toolbox with these two i think. the family think im still in the nineteenth century never mind the 21st cheeky beggars they r all laughin at my one fingered typing swines! its a different story at mot time then its DAD CAN U HELP .DAD CAN BORROW YOUR MOTOR WHILE U FIX MINE.DAD CAN U TAKE IT FOR MOT .i must be asoft touch me. got mug stamped om my forehead

Hi. I`ve got a diesel manual. the book says to select low range when in neutral, but this doesn`t work for me, Iselect low when in 1st. I have no explanation, for this glitch, which causes no noises etc. but there you are.... I would suggest that being stationary is a must tho`...

ive never used low range on this motor ive not had long enuf but the switch doesnt light up ,it did when i got it,cant find a blown fuse anywere so im a bit stuck we have an independant landy outfit near us he,s pretty good n will help diagnose things gratis if he can im trying to get things sorted before i go into hospital cos ill be laid up for a while afterwards .if im sat in the house afterwards n theres a job to do it will drive me mad + the boss lady will kill me if i try to get out to do it AAAAARRRGH

I had a problem with mine when I had a manual DSE in that the plastic bit inside the gearbox that actuates the neutral switch broke and came adrift so I wasn't getting a neutral signal anywhere. Off memory I think it's in the selector mechanism somewhere on the top of the gearbox. Impossible to get at without taking the gearbox out. It was a case of linking out the switch and living with it. It also won't select Low unless you're just about stationary. I think 5mph is the limit. I always made sure I was stopped anyway. I always used to double check I was pressing the cruise control switch though rather than the High/Low switch just in case it would try to change on the move. I dread to think of the noise it would make.......

I what you mean dereck it doesnt bear thinking about the noise i mean .Ive only pushed the switch stationary and in neuteral it lit up and said low range selected but never driven in low box . it was just to check it was working warranty n all that. never needed it in anger until last night we managed anyway but i like everything working. Im fussy me! cheers

When my cruise wouldn,t work , i traced the fault to the rotary cassette that fits under the steering wheel .It transmits voltage from the steering wheel controls to the ecu . The very small wire ribbon had broken at the connection with one of the plugs . This was on a classic , and i believe there is a similar component on the P38. They cost between £20 and £35 on ebay.
