Low pressure fuel pump

The low pressure fuel pump (td4), by the r/o/s wheel - I noticed last night that it seemed a little ‘noisy’.
Now I’m not sure how noisy it ‘should’ be, or if it was ‘noisier’ last night, it’s just the first time I can say I noticed it (only had the car a few weeks).
With ignition on you can hear it running obviously, but even with engine running I could hear it quite clearly when stood by the rear door.
Just a regular ‘buzz’ type sound - it didn’t sound strained or anything.
Is this normal?

It could be the dosing pump you are hearing for the FBH. do you know when the fuel filter was last change, if it is the fuel pump and it's making a noise then it could be a sign of coming to the end of life, if car is running ok no need to do anything just yet.

Ahhh. I really noticed it yesterday for the first time and ambient temp was a good 10 or 12 degrees. Not sure my FBH works - never was warm in the cold snap the other week! (Hence the stat mod)
I have no reason to suspect the lp pump - starts/runs/idles just fine.
I have the fuel filter, and intended on doing it 2 weeks ago when I did the engine service. By the time I took a peek at the cradle by the rear wheel, I decided to do it another day!

Hi

If you change the low pressure pump, put one from Bosch or an original one.
Cheap pump are noisy and not reliable.

Hi

When replacing the fuel filter, you need a small metal part YPZ000010 that always break.

That would explain the loose wire with a spade connector on the end, that I found ‘wedged’ against the filter. Wondered where that was supposed to go.

Small clip ordered. Given that I think it is missing on mine - where does it go? Is it obvious once I wrestle the bl00dy cradle thing out?

i believe it slides into the fuel-filter housing ..
it be used as a 'ground' connection, to suppress electrical interference .. afaik

That’s the one, yes. From what I see, yes, it’s a ground connection, and would be a good home for the loose wire I’ve seen in there.
I’m assuming it ‘slides’ into the gap I found the spade connector wedged in perhaps?

Once you put the new fuel filter, the conector slides in the little opening between the plastic houssing and the fuel filter.
There is a small wire with a connector, you certainly have a brocken metal part in it ...
