Hi All, I'm new to the site, just got an 02 Freelander TD4 with 80K on it, all seems well but I've just been on a 450 mile motorway round trip, keeping to about 75mph and only returned about 30mpg. Is there anything I should be looking for which can cause this. I was hoping to get late 30's.

Thanks

i get about 26 round town and 34 ish on a good run. Mines an auto however the manual does a bit more. Some on here get late 30s i gather. 30 does seem a bit low unless you've been hammering it.

My auto has fallen from 34 to 30 since the cold weather. The only other thing is i have filled twice with Tesco and normally only use Shell, Tried Shell this week to see how it goes

On average, I get 400 to 450 from a tank, with a mix of motorway and regional roads.
On one fill, I made a conscious effort never to go above 2000 revs, and I got 510 miles from the tank. :)
I thinks it's fast motorway drivin that brings down the mpg

I was told by dealer 37mpg on motorways will mean sticking to 60mph. Doing 70mph or more and the wind resistance kills ur fuel economy.

From 1/11/2007 to date I have only covered 1,691 miles in my TD4 53 auto, at the last fill up on 4/2/2008 it had used 229.75 litres of Shell / Esso diesel which equates to 50.54 gallons and 33.46 mpg. The vast majority of miles were on the M25 at around the legal limit.
It improves by around 2mpg in the summer.
I have always kept accurate mpg figures, apart from being a mean individual with my spending, they are an indication of how well the electronic management system is working.

Have you checked your tyre condition and pressure?

Other than a jolly good service, if you do a lot of motorway cruising you could remove the roof bars.

Cheers
