Morning everyone,

I have got a td4 es 2001 with 50 thousand miles on it. When it drives on motorways between 60 - 70 there is a loud humming noise from the rear of the vehicle. I wondered if it was mechanical or is it the tyres. I bought this vehicle with FEDERAL tyres on but are wearing normal.

Thanks for any info.

Sounds like the prop shaft bearings may be on the way out. Dont worry not to expensive.

Had this problem with 2 L Series Freelanders i have had.

Also check the tyre tread very closely. Is the tread all level and no up and down

No they are more road than off road tyres. I have put Wranglers on the front and i would say they have more offroad tread than the federals.

Cheers

Greg

The noise did not start after fitting the tyres did it? I had some burning diff problems a few years ago due to mis-matched front/rear treads....
