Hi, this has happened twice, the first time at about 40mph, the car was running fine then a loud pop/bang, the car momentarily lost power then continued OK. A week went by without any issues then whilst pulling away in 2nd gear at low speed today, same thing, loud bang, car stopped as if it wouldn't be drivable then after turning off engine and restarting seems to run smooth again. Nothing obviously hanging down from under the car or hoses blown off. Very confused any ideas or things to check most welcome? Not a mechanical person but able to follow instructions. Suspect moving parts under car as opposed to engine backfiring but no confidence in this diagnosis. Regards.

what engine, what year, auto or manual transmission, how many miles, how long you owned it, was it bought new or used, etc........... Need details Doc, just like when you see a patient for treatment

Presuming he is a medical doctor.

Any way sounds like IRD maybe - search for wheel up test and try that see what the results are then post back.

Don't drive it at the moment IMO

I see thank you!
it's a 2006 TD4 Adventurer manual 1951cc with 120,000 miles, part service history, bought under a month ago privately from a chap who seemed honest enough, but vaguely recall him mentioning having at one point changed something which may or may not have been the VCU hub. What I do remember is him saying some people alter them and drive them in two wheel drive, but he'd put this one back into four wheel drive having done this bit of (for lack of good facts) tinkering/replacement
The car is otherwise in very well looked after condition no visible leaks etc and engine looks dry and everthing's topped up. It's gone through it's MOT a few months back with him and there weren't any advisory notes for the past few years
There's nothing to see under it, but I'd be willing to take instruction to establish some better info
Thanks again
