Lost my Trafficators on my Defender

Lost both direction on my trafficators but still have the hazard lights. Checked all the fuses, all OK. All light bulbs are working.
The steering stalk switch is only about two years old, I reconnected the old one which other than the horn was in working order. Still no trafficators.
My electrician guy is away till the end of the month, anyone have any other ideas as to what I should check?

Check, check and check again that all the earths are sound!!

And the relay !!

Can't remember where it is, but I'd find where it is and check the indicator relay ..

Mine have done exactly the same before. It's usually the hazard switch at fault. Either taking switch apart and giving the contacts a bend or change switch. I have several switches lying about and one gives you indicators but no hazards and one gives you hazards but no indicators. I currently have indicators but no hazards but the mot is coming up so I will have to do something about it.

Don't need trafficators on a Defender. Just slip a cow shit covered welly over your right arm, stick it out of the window and wave in a suitable manner.

I had a similar situation about two years ago. The hazards stop working. I had to change the switch which sorted the problem out. Everything was working fine, half way back from visiting a friend and the Trafficators just packed up. It was only the other day I was thinking to myself that my Defender has been going well for about the last twelve months.

Int 'trafficators' the term for the little 'arms' that came out of the B pillar in the good old days, long before those wing mounted new-fangled indicators ?

Sometimes ...

Don't know about defenders but on a series there are two separate relays, one for indicators and other for hazards, both are behind the clocks panel.

Can they be retro fitter to my Freelander td4 2002 model. Sure L/R designer had a field day when placing indicators on lower section of the Bumper.

I expect back in the fifties they could fit them to anything you wanted, nowadays, I'm not so sure ...

It is indeed.

Wild guess here could a modern magnetic version with LEDs with socket plug in do the trick.

My thoughts exactly Dipps me young mate!!

You don't say what age your Defender is, but I have a 1985 110 with glass fuses, and I have no end of problems with the fuses. They don't blow, they just have poor contacts and sulk every so often. On mine the brake lights are on the same fuse as the indicators, do your brake lights still work?
If yours has glass fuses I would suggest cleaning up the contacts on the fuse holder.
