Hi,
I've lost my keys to my landrover freelander mk1.

Luckily, I had a battery problem before I lost the keys and the rear window was still open a smidgen. I've managed to 'break' into the freelander.

I'm still not sure if the alarm is on, I don't think it is. The battery is dead.

What's the best course of action? A garage had been booked to pick it up friday gone, still no word. I'm thinking of sorting it myself, If i can. Not sure what needs doing though.

Based in northeast.
Thanks
andy

I don't think anyone is going to be daft enough to tell you how to nick a freelander on an open forum......

I think a PM to Ratty may be your best bet.

Anyone else??

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Oops, I apologise if my message had come across like that. That wasn't my intention.

If you do not have a spare, a new key (which has a built-in with transponder) needs to be re coded. This usually means a T4 testbook machine or an Autologic one (both many thousands of dollars)

There are alternatives, which a locksmith might have the machine to do it with.

I don't know where you live but actionman39 says he does this sort of things in this thread. I would PM him.

Thanks for that, good info.

Cheers, Will look further into auto locksmith

New key are £90 from a landrover dealer. Show them your v5 and id they can then order one which take 10days to get delivered. So ive been informed by landrover

Autolock smith i have spoken to cant supply a new key it would be old internals with a new key body and blade. But wouldn't be any cheaper because the edis??? unit is behind the dashboard of a freelander1. But he can come out enter the car and make you a new key within the hour. (i expect that depends where you live)

I have not personally done this but I did read recently in LRO or similar that you can swap the engine ECU and keyfobs from another Freelander or Rover/MG 75/ZT - you see them advertised on e-bay as a set (ECU and fobs) for around £200. You will also need to change the lock barrels in the ignition, drivers door and tailgate - again you see these as sets on e-bay.

I say again though I have not personally done this so I would see if anyone contributes who can confirm it?

Given the cost - this might be one of the few occasions when it's cheaper and better to use the main dealer for a new key and fob...

Local breakers has a complete landy in, with full lock set. I'm gonna ring landrover and an auto lock smith to see what the prices are.
I love my freelander, but i know she's not worth a whole lot. Let's see what's most cost effective, as that's the main thing at the moment. ;-/

Petrol matches :flame:  :boink: :D

lol, I'm nearly finished all my welding too. Perfect excuse. ;-D

I've managed to find a key cutter for 12 quid, cheaper than the 30 quid I got quoted.
Waiting for it to delivered next week, so fingers crossed it'll work. I've a cheap fob on the bay, or a local guy said he could program a fob in.

I'm not trying to be tight, just funds are needed to finish welding, new tyres, MOT, tax and diesel. (and tow bar if i ever find the bolts)
thanks
andy ;-D
