Hi, I am a ownwer of a 1.8 "v" plate freelander. Today i was on the motorway when slowly the pwer started to die, so i pulled into the service and put some oil as not much was showi9ng. i carried on with my journey and it was ok but then i started loosing pwer again and so grey smoke was pouring out the back! the RAC didnt know what it was so i was towed back home. Any ideas what this could be as it doesn't seem to be overheating or anything?:(

Grey smoke is usually unburnt fuel sometimes caused by low compression.

probelly yer head gasket and if you dipped yer dip stick as soon as you stopped then it would show low as the oil needs time to dribble back down into the sump. best to check it after a nice cup of tea and a chocy biscuit

the 1.8 is the old 'K' series isnt it?

Then yeah its most likley your head gasket if your getting low compression and unburnt fuel. Had the same problem on a rover 200 1.4 I owned, it went bang about a week after.

65 in my Def 90 was like Mach One in a Sopwith Camel ...

So I sold it to Discomania. Practically gave it away ... sob ....
