Hey Rangerover owners,
I own a 1996 BMW 325 tds which as I've heard has the same stright 6 diesel engine in that was fitted to the P38 Rangerover?
I'm having a bit of trouble with my engine and not many people on BMW forums have come across this engine so I was wondering if someone on here could help?

Basically when i set off from a stopped start and rev the engine to about 3-4,000 RPM to get a quick start, then put the clutch down, put it into second, clutch up, accelarator down.... then nothing...the car goes dead and i start decreasing in speed! I can have my foot to the floor and the rev counter and speedo just continue to decrease! :( Basically as if you've not got your foot on the accelerator at all!
To get it to work again, I take my foot back off the accelerator and back on a few seconds later and it'll kick in again!!

I was wondering if anyone else knew the cause/solution to this problem?

thanks in advance

Rob

your problem sounds like the fuel quantity control which is inside the diesel pump, get a diagnostic done and it should flag a code to confirm. if it is the pump your looking at a nice bill to repair.:(

If the BMW has an electric rather than cable operated throttle pedal, it could simply be throttle pedal assembly failure. Common fault on Transits, don't know if it is the same on BMW or for that matter on the P38. sometime can be fixed by spraying the variable resistor in the throttle pedal assembly with contact cleaner (not WD40)

yea it's an electric throttle! that the same as the P38?
fingers crossed it's not the fuel pump then! :( it only has problems when i really try to push it, all the rest of the time it's perfectly fine...

That would be a typical throttle pedal failure if it was a Transit:eek::eek::eek: In fact it seems as if it has gone into limp home mode if the problem is really bad with the throttle pedal.
