My 90 has recently started to loose power when under load. It only seems to be noticeable when towing and under load ie going up a long steep hill. This weekend I noticed that almost every time it happens, the temperature gauge jumps around erratically. Sometimes it goes off the scale to over temp, other times to cold?? I have checked the Red plug a couple of months ago and there was very small amount of oil so I cleaned it out. Also recently it's creating a lot of black smoke when labouring. I had it remapped a few months ago but im almost sure it wasn't like this when I got it back??

Any thoughts apreciated

First of all check the Engine coolant temp.(ECT) sensor and the wiring to it(it;s on the coolant outlet elbow on the top of the engine)...this one gives inputs to the ECM and the gauge aswell. Bad inputs from it could make the ECM to limit engine operation. .. Part number MHK100640... not the cheapest bit though... but not the worst either
