Hi, I have recently change my spark plugs and ignition leads on my 1995 p38.
Since doing so, I have found that the cars idle is very irratic, revs drop up and down and jump about! some times stalling the car.

Then when driving, there is no power. I put my foot down, the revs are right up but the car does not seems to go over 15mph, then suddenly, it will spring into life and drive as normal. This may last 5 minutes, then no power.

There is also a very strong smell of petrol, It seems to be from the exhaust area! and the car is drinkng petrol doing about 5 to 8 mpg.

any ideas?

thank you

there was a problem like this a while ago, cant remember the out come. it sounds like it running rich i would start with things like maf senser, it could also be thotle body. is it missing at all?

ok start up let it get warm get some body to keep it running take maf senser out give it a few mins se if it makes any diff. it should run poorly and pop, lets know how it goes. j

There was someone on here, Hunterandthehunted I think was his name, who had the same problem, but I think he dumped the Rangie after spending a wad on it and things just not working out....try a search on his name perhaps.

Hello

I changed my leads on my '95 4.0. As i was driving, i started noticing lack of power and the engine was missing. When i checked one of the leads that goes on the ignition pack at the back of the engine had come off and was arcing. i pushed it back on and everything was back to normal. It might not be that, but certainly worth a look. I'm not sure if the gaps need setting on your spark plugs either. Also it might be worth cleaning your idle air control valve and maf sensor with some compressed air/brake cleaner. Not big jobs and could make a world of difference.
