The answer is actually quite long and complex and involves valve opening duration, overlap and cam lobe profiles combined with the fact it's a V8 engine.

And no, you can't get a 4 pot to do that unless it's a V4 or a 180 degree Vee 4 (aka boxer/flat). :)

ahh yehh, thought it sounded like it was massively cammed! does it have any advantage to have it set up like that? except the sound?!

I'll maybe have a stab later at explaining better. Unless someone better does before hand. In short high lift cams move the power band up the rev range and typically open the valves more and for longer duration. It's this that gives the lopey rougher idle as a rule. Not all bigger cams will and depending on LCA, lobe sep, duration and lift even milder cams can lope a lot. It's more pronounced on a V8 due to it's uneven firing order. And inline 4 stil suffers similar affect but being a multivalve engine means it's less noticeable.

Search YouTube for Trex cam idle they sound really good. :)

I am the anti-lope.
