I,ve recently fitted a recon gearbox, which is going well except that the transfer lever just touches the metalwork and makes a squeak.
I have had a look and the box seems to sit half inch or so too far over the drivers side.
I have loosened all the bolts on the mounting brackets but there doesn't seem to be any adjustment. I have measured the mounts and they appear to be o.k.
The mounting brackets were on the new gearbox when I got it. Do they do different types?
I have fitted a 4mm shim to bring it over so that the squeeking has now gone, but any ideas for a proper fix would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure that the floorpan was put back right. I used all existing holes. Looking at the crossmember where the propshaft goes through also looks off center.
I got the gearbox from ebay. It was one that had been reconditioned by the army and was packed in an army case. I paid £450 for it.
My landy is a series 3 but the gearbox that was in it was a series 2. The new one which is a series 3 fitted straight in with no problems other than this offset.

I didn't think that they could be fitted the wrong way round.
But you have got me thinking?
I will have another look tomorrow. Cheers Davec.

If they are the same as the defender, then there will be a difference;) :D

Thanks Bustersbus.
The supports were already fitted to the gearbox and I just fitted new mounts to them.
I still have my old gearbox with the supports fitted. I will have a good check tomorrow.

bustersbus you were spot on. I looked and looked at the mounting brackets and they looked the same. Then I lined them up on a straight edge and they were different. Once you see the difference you wonder how the bl***y hell you didn't see it straight away.
Swapped them over and it all sits nicely as it should.
Thankyou everyone for your help
