ive been toying with the idea of buying a disco on and off for a number of years, its the reliability that puts me off, before my budget was going to be around £3-4k.

now im looking at a diesel disco2 facelift with a budget of up to £9k

id prefer it to have the following

leather interior
cruise control
7 seats
no more than 80k miles

our current car is an audi a6 2.8 quattro and i tow cars about at least every fornight and its beginning to tak its toll, other cars i considered were, BMW X5, VW toureg even a mistsi L200 warrior double cab pick up.

Im not into the off roading scene, as i have never done it, however if i were to do give it a go i can think of nothing better as an all round tow car, off roader and safe family hack.

what should i be looking out for and are there any about that i should look at, im ready to buy now if the right one comes up.

cheers

I've had two. A 2000 Adventurer LE high spec that I kept for 4 years and 105k miles and I now have an 04 facelift pursuit (lower spec) with 50k. Reliability is better with the lower spec cars, without the ACE (active cornering enhancement) and without the rear air suspension, both of which can cause problems. Having said that, the ACE does make a bit of a difference in handling and the air suspension would help when towing. However the Disco2 in any spec is an awesome towing tool.

Don't worry about whether it's got cruise control. All D2's are wired up for it, so if it isn't there, it's a case of replacing a switch on the binnacle where there's a blank and the steering wheel switches. On ebay at present the kit costs £80-£90, which is a tad expensive, but it's original equipment kit and a monkey could install it, so don't make that a deal breaker.

The leather seats are obviously on the higher spec models, on some you get half leather, but it was an option, so you do see lower spec cars with leather.

Here's a list of what each spec had as standard:

www.discovery2.co.uk / Discovery 2 Factory Options / Specification

I wouldn't necessarily not go for a high spec, but if you do, budget a bit more for stuff going wrong.

Hope that helps.

yes thanks, interesting about the cruise, ill remember that so i dont write one off for not having it, i was under the impression that the 7 seaters had rear air suspension, is that not the case?

thanks this is just what I was looking for,

bought a Disco 2 E spec and has had a lot of additions , now I know what should be there and what's been added
