Hi everyone
Been a while since i was on here
I’m looking to get myself back into a landy.
At the minute I’m looking at either a late model Disco 2 or an early Td6 Range Rover.
Any words on what to lookout for would be great
Cheers in advance Ian

It does. Being an older design, they require a bit more maintenance and regular checking than many owners are used to now.
And while they are a strong vehicle, massive levels of abuse will also take a toll on condition over time.

hope u don’t mind me saying, “ but never a truer word spoken “ regarding maintenance,

where i’ve stepped up to a disco and the extra things required , inc preventative maintenance which i’ve always felt plays dividends in the long run

I was thinking more of the older vehicles, but the same applies to later models.
In my opinion, it is a shame that Landrover have abandoned some of the serviceable components on the newer models, in favour of "sealed for life" units.

indeed and know where ur coming from, ive got that sealed for life gearbox statement in my owners manual, alas in reality it’s around the 60,000 miles it’s now recommended to replace the ATF oil and filter pan

there Lifeguard ATF oil is around £22 per litre , there’s a few other equivalent ZF approved ATF oils around which many use , unfortunately read where some have used dexron oil in the 6HP and done some serious damage , or garages not knowing how to change the ATF oils correctly

shame there isn’t any grease points like there use to be on the prop UJs etc, also having to measure the diff oils for front and back, what ever happened to the level plugs , lol

Abandoning greasable UJs was just silly, especially the double cardon joints on V8 D2s which are right beside a massive exhaust box.
If I had such a vehicle, I would fit aftermarket greasable ones every time one failed.
