Hi Everyone,

Firstly hello everyone! I am looking to join the club and own my first land rover. I stay in canada after moving to the UK and i am looking for your help please.
One wealthy gentleman has sold his two land rovers discoveries, both owned only by him, one being a 2009 lr3 V8 with approx 74000kms , the other a 2004 with 96000kms. Both are HSE models. I have the chance of purchasing one via a general dealer.
To be frank, my mechanical skills are basic at best, and after reading the potential issues and mpg, insurance costs, I am truly at a crossroads.
Am i mad to try to take one of these on? Both are in remarkable condition. The 2009, last invoice was $32k where suspension was replaced, interior done.etc. The 2004 last invoice was $16k.

Please can you enlighten me.

Thank you!

Forgot to add, i will not be doing extreme off roading, and as you know the winters here are normally -15 to -30. Thank you

Seems like you are basing this purchase on external look, age/mileage and the amount spent on service whilst not saying when the service was ?.

No info on how much you will be driving per year or how much you can afford.

I'd want to know exactly what was done for those huge costs. Why did the car need the entire suspension replacing? Can you see historical records on government inspections(MOT test?) I think an independent, thorough inspection wouldn't go amiss if you're not that savvy and it's your first time with land rover. Don't forget to check underneath, under plastics etc for salt damage

IMO?? Your better off getting the Discovery Td5?

Come MoT time! Any issues are in the Hundreds if needed?? in the first couple of years owning it! Rather the thousands with Discovery 3/4s!

D2 will make your mechanical minded! With lots of info on this site to help and the LR D2 owners around!
Plus! The university of YouTube!
And the college of Google?

Not saying that D3/4 owners on this site not helpful! They are! But you will need a bit of space to fix them! And NASA degree will also help🤣

All the best in our decision?

Kev

Apologies ..i will be driving mostly motorway, with some off roading approx 12k miles per year. Attached was the work undertaken in dec 21.
