Hi. I am new to Landrovers - I bought a Discovery (96 300tdi) about 2 weeks ago and love it. Only trouble is it doesn't have a cd player.

I've had a look at ebay for Discovery CD players and all I seem to be able to find is cd changers that apparenty live under the seat. I'm a bit unsure how to connect the changer to the radio/cassette though. Is there a factory installed cable lurking somewhere that I simply plug into the changer, or do I need to buy a specific cable which will connect into the radio and the changer?

Thanks, Tim

Hi There
I have a 96 300TDi which had a head unit and cd changer under the seat. I had an annoying intermitent problem with the cable that goes to the changer so I just bought a Sony Giga Mex unit which was a straight swap. CD changer is still there but un used. The Sony unit allows you to plat standard CDs or ones in MP3/WAV formats so basically one CD could have up to 10 albums on it. Apart from that theres a really clever feature. You unclip the front panel, as you would to prevent theft. On the front panel is a USB port which enables you to connect to the PC and download 1GB (up to 500 songs) so who needs 6 cds under the seat? I should also add that it has a tuner and aux input as well as changer input (if you have the right lead) and 52W x 4 power output. I got mine half price from Argos £115. There are better ones with bluetooth connectivity which allows you to play the music on your phone through it and also the audio of your incoming calls.

I am really pleased with the Sony unit and wouldnt go back to the CD changer. I could sell you the std head unit and CD changer but you would need the cables and the code for the head unit.

I can see your point but surely the stereo is pretty close to the steering wheel anyway. I certainly havent missed the remotes. So does yours have the changer cable in or not? If it has remotes then I would have thought it must be a high spec model which had a changer? what head unit is in it now?
