Why didn't land rover galv them!!

Originally they did, but it was discontinued after a few years, and they went to paint outside and a waxoyl substance sprayed inside. The reasons give were cost savings ansd issues with deformation during Galvanising. The real reason was probably that they realised it wasn't good business to sell vehicles that lasted for fifty years!

The painting was always poor compared to some other makes, but years ago the metal quality of the british steel was quite good, so it rusted slowly. Nowadays the coating is still poor, but the Indian or Turkish steel rust like nothing else when unprotected.

Hi would prob cost landrover about £80 to galv at factory, often thought if you could spec a new one with galv chassis, discos dont seam to suffer the same, just the body rots:confused:

Hi thats good news the start of a new hobby, just get some good security on fast as possible, had mine stolen 2 weeks ago. theres been 9 defenders stolen since xmas in our area.

It's got some pedal plate lock already fitted, alarm & imobiliser & we have got electric gates. I'm hoping that should be enough, when I upgrade the steering wheel I will get a snap off type. Shame that you lost yours, hopefully you get it recovered
