My 200tdi is dead :(the body was falling of the chassis and I was quoted £1000 to get an MOT on it :eek:. So I'm thinking about a replacement (the mondeo is crap) so my question is what would I get for £2000ish must me 7seats and I need an AUTO

:hysterically_laughifor £2000 you can have mine 300tdi auto plenty of electrical problems leaky sunroofs bit of rust bit it runs
 
i paid £2900 for my es td5 auto thankyou, two monthes ago, high miles but with new engine. Keep looking. I bought mine on flea bay, looked ad 17 different ones first, all with low mileage, every single one had been clocked and had coolant issues, all the high mileage ones seemed to drive a lot better, dont let mileage put you off or lack of service history, take on long test drive to find out if any issues.

Only two months ago! Give it time, save some money, you'll need it. Lol
 
looked at disco's up to 7k, they all needed work. Replaced shocks, fuel pressure switch, full service and thats it..Runs beautifully and is very fast for a td5. De egr'd it and de-catted it and got rid of middle pipe, cars already been re-mapped at td5alive tuning before i bought it. This is my first diesel disco, had 3 v8's before, running on lpg and i have to say performance wise there's not a lot of difference now. I guess mines pushing out about 175 bhp now...not bad!
 
I doubt that you have much more than 160bhp unless you have the stage 2 tune ie larger intercooler and boost upped as well as the remap etc. My brother in laws has been measured at 156 with a stge1, de-egr (added nothing to his) and exhaust sorted.
 
well it does have a much bigger intercooler on than standard, as stated i'v owned 3 v8"s before, my disco is is pushing out more than 163 bhp thanks, there is not much difference performance wise between it and a v8. I'll race you....or your brother!!
 
I know I should not sat this on here but ....everybody I have asked who uses there 4x4 everyday and for towing keeps telling me to buy a ..................Shogun :eek: and the really bad thing is I'm even thinking about it:behindsofa: after all I dont see how it can be any worse than the disco was :rolleyes:

i'v got a toyota landcruiser 2 for sale....1989, diesel, swb, never ever gone wrong, had all welding done, needs clutch, want £800, mot til sept. I hated driving it as the japs dont know how to make nice interiors or fun driving machines...ps got large twin axle trailer for sale to, so you could come and load cruiser on it and take it away!!!!! £1650 for the pair!
 
thanks for the offer but I need the LWB with 7 seats (dam kids) lol
I'm not looking at buying until May so just trying to decide what to get at the disco cost me a fortune to keep on the road for a year (then needed about £1000 for mot) as I carnt do the work my self as I'm disabled and if I do anything my next door neighbour reports me :rolleyes:

Fair enough, bigger intercooler makes a lot of difference, my point was you don't normally get 170 plus just from a remap which you have upheld.

163bhp is a 3.5, 3.9s and 4.0s are both over 180bhp and anyway I don't think your 175bhp will be much of a match for my 210-220bhp, but thanks for the offer.
 
none of my v8"s chucked out 180+ bhp, they were all 170 bhp and 3.5 v8"s are 150 bhp, had a 4.6 in my last disco, a coscast engine from rpi engineering, that supposedly had 225 bhp, complete bollocks, it had about 175 if that. I was extremely disappointed with it after previous 4 litre v8 and it dropped a liner 3 weeks after 12 month warranty was up and 19000 miles. Thats when i gave up v8's and lpg...and buying anything from rpi.
Jeremy Fearn, the diesel guru lives locally and he"s dropped the latest twin turbo 530d engine in a P38 and let me tell you that really does shift!

BHP talk means f' all, it's torque that counts, especially moving a 2 ton pile of rusty land/range rover!

The shogun is a fantastic tow vehicle, never failed to pull anything we threw at it, and was a lot more stable than the disco (which is also a really good tow car I hasten to add!). Trouble with the shogun, is that although they are very reliable, when they do go wrong parts aren't cheap. The 2.8TD also has a problem with a seal perishing in the fuel pump. The seal itself is about 70p, but the labour will set you back hundreds.....

That's the beauty of the disco. If you enjoy having a tinker yourself, parts are cheap and you'll save yourself a fortune. With regular maintenance, it'll just keep on working and working (I'm talking about the 300Tdi btw). If you don't like getting your hands dirty, and reliability is what your after, then go for the shogun.
