Well, as I now own a Land Rover, I thought I'd better start a thread.
This link is to my initial post re advice https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-ro...-110-station-wagon.298820/page-2#post-3726805

This is my new project, I've had he a few months now but work has got in the way of letting me get started on her;

She needs an awful lot of work but, this is the criteria;

1. Diesel.
2. Auto box - Mrs G needs to be able to drive it occasionally.
3 Power steering - as per point 2
4 Air Con
5 As comfortable a possible from a 110. No big wheels, suspension mods etc, it's never going to go off road but it will be the daily drive.

Where we are now.

I have a quote for a new galvanised chassis which I'm looking at ordering at the end of the week.
I have found locally a Disco 300tdi which will supply my engine and gearbox and possibly some of my drive train?
My intention is to have all new springs suspension and have the actual drive of the vehicle as civilised as possible and, I have £6500 budget to do this.
My chassis is £2750 delivered, my donor Disco is £600 leaving me £3150 to buy everything else needed. Is this realistic?

What I'm after is advice as these vehicles are new to me.
What can use from the Disco? Can I use some of the drivetrain? Is it a case of, 'it would be better with the Disco X coupled with the 110 Y', etc.

Also, how easy is it to remove the body? I have plenty of space to do this in, a fork lift to aid in lifting moving things and although very new to Land Rovers, I'm not new to this sort of thing having restored a couple of Porsches and a Merc in the past to a high standard. I'm also quite handy so none of the budget will be consumed by paying anybody to do anything.

The Land Rover is a bit of a change in direction for me but, I've always liked the look of them, many years ago in the military I covered tens of thousands of miles in asthmatic petrol version but, for some reason I've always had a bit of a soft spot for them but, never owned one.

Originally the vehicle was petrol but has been converted to diesel (I'm not actually sure which engine!), everything is sloppy, the chassis makes Swiss cheese seem robust, 3 out of the 5 doors wont open but, apart from that, she's perfect.

Any advice/thoughts gratefully received!!

Yeah, the Defender 200tdi will pay for the auto disco easily, maybe wayyy more, the box £150ish transfer box if you don't use it another 50 odd.
There is a thread on here somewhere of someone doing the same, have a search.
