Hi all
I have decided that after selling my landy hicap many years ago that I fancy getting another one, I am looking for one on a 200tdi or 300tdi and going to do a complete rebuild, I also want one so that I can build a larger demount for it than I currently have on my ranger, but thats where the fun begins
I have been looking at a few and it appears that although some have a gvw of 3500kg in the log book they only have plates under the bonnet of 3050kg which could cause some major issues if you were ever caught overloaded as from previous experience the ministry will go by the plated weight.
So can anyone shed any light on why some are like this ? are they all 3500kg on the log book and then if they were fitted with the suspension upgrade had 3500kg plates fitted ?

Mine is like that GVW of 3499 on the logbook 3050kg on the plate, from my understanding all that's needed to take it to 3500kg is stronger springs a VOSA inspection and a new plate.

You can bet it won't be that simple though

I asked a similar question and got this helpful reply via PM

Factory 3500kg GVW 110's have the same suspension components as 130's, i.e. -

Heavy Duty Front Springs
Heavy Duty Rear Springs
'Helper' Springs inside the main Springs at the rear

Front Shock Absorbers are the same as standard 110's

Up until the introduction of the TD5 Engine, HD 110's and 130's used a different Rear Shock Absorber. From the TD5 onwards, they used the same Shock Absorber as the standard 110.

I'm not too sure about the 'legal' side of things, but I would think that if you upgraded the suspension with factory components, you would still need to have it inspected by VOSA or possibly a Land Rover Dealer, to have the plated weight increased to 3500kg, especially if you're using it commercially.

Thanks for that.
I would imagine the getting a new plate will be a major hurdle, oddly I came across a 3050kg 130 the other day and I thought they were all 3500kg.
I will just wait for a 3500kg plated one to turn up I think

btw are you the same wack61 from TP ?
