Just been to see my mate, a land rover independant.

He has a Log Book, Vin plate for a 1961 109 land rover

It also has the matching front and rear axles, plus the correct series 2

gearbox with early bellhousing.

As the chassis and bulkhead were shot would this make an legitimate kit for someone to rebuild onto a series 2 galv chassis and pegasus bulkhead?
 
However for export to the US they need to original chassis to make it legit that's why the galv ones were crushed
 
I reckon 2 correct axles plus gearbox, vin plate and documents ...£500?

For someone who wants to build an ultimate refurbished 61 series 2 I think that would be fair?

I am on the understanding that this would be within the current regulations for the next owner if

- A replacement period correct chassis and bulkhead were used

chassis or body shell (body and chassis as one unit - monocoque ie direct replacement from the manufacturer) (original or new) = 5 points

suspension = 2 points

axles = 2 points

transmission = 2 points

steering assembly = 2 points

engine = 1 point

VOSA (the vehicle licencing authority) generally allow 'like for like' replacements. So for example, a new set of leaf springs on a Series vehicle would keep the two points for suspension, provided they used the standard original mounting points. Likewise, a reconditioned 2.25 petrol engine replacing a worn out original would retain the 1 point for engine, but a TDi conversion in a Series vehicle would not.
 
It would be OK for you to build , but thinking about doing it for a subsequent owner , doesnt make sense if you did the job properly . Starting from what you mention seems a hard way to go about it unless you intend jumping on the crazy price bandwagon that seems to be on ebay . JMHO
