The spare wheel on my discovery 2 is locked on with 3 nuts, one is a locking type. I fitted discovery 3 wheels and spiggots + new discovery 3 wheel nuts when I got the car as the ones one it were some stupid 22" ones.
I need to get a wheel nut key to get the spare off... is there only one type or multiple types ? I had a quick look on the internet and there seemed to be diferent ones with different codes ?

The one I have has two indents. If they are different how to know which one to get ?

Thanks

Mat

I had this problem recently, the spare had a Landrover nut and I had no key. I got a key from the scrappy for a quid that did not fit but was similar. I chiselled out one of the sticky out bits and tapped it on to the nut. It removed it easily as there is nowhere for the nut to slip as it is such a close fit. Where are you? I can send this key to you if you want. This is a pic of the nut I had to remove.

There are different codes you might see it on the nut it will be a letter stamped on it.
I think they are about £13 on ebay.
If not you might be able to get it off with mole grips that's what I do on my spare.

Hi, The "codes" are a letter. You may be able to get the original letter from a main dealer if you give them the vehicles details. Sorry I can't help ID yours.

I agree with the last 3 posters (last 4 messages).
Each key is letter coded, probably A-Z so that would imply 26 variations. If you can see a letter on your locking nut then you're away, about 15 quid on ebay.
Old diver's method might get you out of trouble, he got hold of any old key from a scrappy and removed one of the spigots.
If you don't mind screwing up the locking nut the you could try to find an IRWIN nut remover to fit.
The locking nut key used to be kept in the wallet usually stowed in the pocket inside the rear tailgate door, along with the wheel brace, wheel chocks and the locking nut cover remover.
