Posted a while ago but with no answers so I am re-posting this to see if anyone can help me.
I have 2004 Freelander Sports which is great car. However I have had a problem for months now that I try and ignore which is whilst driving I can just hear the door locking mechanisms trying to lock themselves. The doors don't actually lock, but it sounds like they are trying. When driving and operate the manual door lock rocker switch on the drivers door the doors all lock and then a moment later unlock. The car can be locked when leaving it parked.
My suspicions are a faulty micro switch on one of the door locks possibly the drivers door where the key turn switch operates, but thought it would be worth asking if anyone has experienced this type of fault.
Any clues ?

try opening all the doors and see if all the corresponding door open dash lights come on...if one stays off then thats the lock to look at first, the car might think one of the doors is locked when it isn't ..you might be hearing it trying to unlock rather than lock..then again I might be completely wrong :)

You presumably have reason to think that the doors are trying to "lock themselves" - but if you lock the doors and then they all pop open - are they not trying to "unlock themselves"?

If all the doors are unlocking themselves after you've locked them - they are getting a signal from the ECU to unlock. The ECU therefore must be getting repeated signals to request unlocking the doors. I can think of 3 inputs to the ECU to request door unlocking - the fobs, the drivers door lock and the manual door lock switch you mention. There may be others relating to immobilier or SRS that I'm unaware of.

So yeh, you could check the micro switch on the drivers door and also the manual door lock switch. It could be the switches or the wiring to them. I don't know if they can be disconnected to see if the unlocking stops. I wonder if a Hawkeye would say what's telling the ECU to open the doors.

have a look at the drivers door switches as when it was raining the other week I noticed after getting into my car that the switches were covered in rain and that is not good for electrics .
