After reading all 39 sticky pages of the "EGR Blanking Mod", I am trying to follow Willo's method for blocking the vacuum hose at the T-junction near the vacuum pump. However, I find that the hose has already been blocked with a screw, BUT AT THE OTHER END of the hose! See attached picture. Does this matter? Where would the other end of the hose have connected to? Do I need to check that the original connection site is blocked off as well?

no .. not from an operative p.o.v. ..
( assuming that Is the vacuum hose that connects to the egr operating solenoid )

no Need ..

block it off If you want to keep airborne dirt getting into the now defunct solenoid vacuum valve ..
might be prudent If you forsee ever needing it operative again ..

You wouldn't get the duck noise as the pipe is no longer connected to the solenoid.

If it were mine I would be blocking it off the more usual way so as to stop any cr*p getting into the solenoid in the unlikely event that I wanted to re-activate the EGR system.

Singvogel.

Not sure where the duck noise comes from as I never had it when I fitted my bypass, just fitted the original vac pipe onto the bypass stub.

You're one of the lucky ones then, Nick.

AFAIK the duck noise is caused by the vacuum collapsing in the EGR vacuum solenoid if the little pipe is closed off at the EGR end.

S.

Hi Singvogel

What I don't understand is why you don't get the same noise when the original valve is in place as when the valve is open the the pipe is effectively blocked anyway, just a thought;)

I don't understand it either, Nick.

But seeing as how I've got rid of the duck I'm not going to lose sleep over why.

It is intriguing though.

Just seems quackers to me :)

Unfortunately I'm missing nothing.

There has been worldwide coverage of the uncovered items concerned.

Nothing we haven't seen before - they look quite similar to the 'common' versions despite them being 'royal'.

Don't know what all the fuss is about - we all knew they existed.

Singvogel.
