Anyone done it? Lifted a 200tdi and the gearbox out in one lump that is? It's coming out of a scrapper so I can cut the front panel out I'm just wondering how it'll balance on the crane? Trying to save a bit of time as I need to get the shell of it shifted sharpish to keep the peace.

easy - i've got a long reach engine hoist so it's quite easy to get it to topple forwards - but lashing a few bags of sand or some breeze blocks to the rear of the hoist helps keep it balanched - but make sure your hoist can lift the combined weight of both GB/tranny and engine

having the body off first helps if your having the gb and engine out in one

good excuse to buy a gas axe, not that an excuse should ever be needed to buy a tool

sorry for the crick in yer neck but did'nt realise it was that way around on photobucket :D
edited; sorted rotated it on photobucket

Chers Sean. I've got a 2 ton engine crane so it should be ok. Gonna give it a go and see what happens:D

Yep I pulled the engine and gearbox out of Stigs disco. but used a chainhoist and a trolley jack. to manoeuvre the gear box until it cleared the bulkhead. was a piece of ****.

I've done it to a couple of 300TDi's. Getting em out is easy enough as long as you can get enough height. If you only lift by the engine, then you've got another 3 foot of gearbox to follow. I used a JCB to lift - works for both in and out. If I was working on a scrapper, I'd say Buckshot has the best method.
