Hi everyone, just need to know the symptoms of a dodgy lift pump and whether the diesel can feed back overnight causing a misfire on startup? If i let the engine tickover for a minute or two it runs and revs fine but if i try to rev on start up it revs as though it was running out of fuel but after runs fine. I have cleaned the sedimentor and changed the leak off pipes on the injectors. Any input would be gratefully received and thanks! The disco is a 1994 300tdi manual with 97000 on clock.

Maybe air getting into the system somewhere else, lift the carpet in the boot and remove inspection panel, check the plastic fittings on top of the fuel sender unit for cracks.

just checked the fuel sender unit to find that the pipes are rusty and there are splits in the plastic where the pipes go in! can i use some sort of sealant to fill the cracks or is it a new sender unit?

is there enough room to cut the pipe and get some rubber fuel hose over where the split is?
if not it's a new section of pipe mate or new sender

you could try a sealant of some sort but i'd say it'd have to be good stuff

No there is not enough pipe to sleeve with rubber as the split is on the top of the actual sender unit plastic where the metal tube slots into the top of the sender so i have used a silicone sealant to see if the problem has been sorted but not very optimistic!

got up for work this morning and disco is still the same! takes a while to start and then misses until revved and then all is fine so the silicone sealant as done absolutely f**k all so back to the drawing board! this is why i love my disco so much!!!!!
