Hello guys. On my way to work this morning my defender with 200 tdi disco engine in went very sluggish and wouldn't pull. I've checked all intercooler pipes etc and the turbo, they all seem fine and as they should be. When i took the pipe off the fuel filter housing down to the lift pump and cranked the engine nothing what so ever came out of the pipe. Am i right in thinking this should squirt diesel out when the engine is cranked and would possibly indicate a jaffered lift pump. When the little lever is pumped it doesn't seem to feel like its attached to ewt. I've cranked the engine over a few times and tried it again incase its on the high spot of the cam but it doesn't seem to make any difference. The landrover runs ok on tickover but when under load it doesn't want to know. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

Sounds like a lift pump but could also be a blocked fuel pick-up pipe or sediment filter (if you have one)

Thanks, was going to chance a lift pump for 20 ish quid. I will check them aswell tomorrow while i am doing. Need to get the old girl back up and running as my other option is my motorbike, don't really fancy skating down the road on my ass on the ice.☺

All sorted, lift pump was knackered. Bobbed a new one on and away she went. Happy days

The lift pumps are poo, you can always tell when they are on their way as the lack of fuel takes the edge of the meagre power delivery.

Excellent - I baught a britpart one and it didn't last long! Prob a good idea to do fuel filter too.

I got the fuel filter aswell, to be on the safe side. Blew the fuel line out with the airline to make sure it was clear whilst i was doing.
