Keep an eye on pump tho could just start being Intermittent when low , if one or more of your glow plugs were defective it usually takes more turning over or even two goes with the plugs a good indication is a lumpy start briefly when it finally fires up , for your benefit :)

ok checked out the glow plugs tonight and they get a constant 10.5 v even after the dash light goes out,is this normal?

No the power should switch off when lamp goes off or at least within a few seconds of it going out. There should not be constant power to them. You now know you have power to them, are they working is what you want to know now. You will have to disconnect them to test continuity. They maybe separate wires but they all feed from same bus so if you leave them connected one working will show continuity on all six when checked.

thanks :)

ordering some now

You need at least three consecutively firing cylinders to be good. Two maybe will get a start in summer. Even then you will get a lumpy run until others chime in. Firing order 1 5 3 6 2 4. Will leave you to work out the possible good and not so good combinations.

Many thanks for all your help so far. However i fitted new glow plugs and she fired up first time.all good except smoke started coming out of the alternator!!had a alternator fault message come up on the dash but tho has only happened since I fitted new glow plugs.
Any ideas would be much apprietiated!!

Alternator duff coincidental, nothing to do with glow plugs unless you spilled something into it whilst doing job. Plugs working will deplete battery slightly more and combination of that and using starter will put more load on alternator just after start up. Alternators do not like water or oil in them.
