Lift pump 300 tdi

Just having a fiddle and Iv noticed there's no resistance on my lift pump charge handle , should there be any it's doesn't seem to be doing nowt? It's a 96 300 tdi

try opening the bleed on the top of the filter housing then operate it

Think you gotta just flick the ignition quickly, the pump works from the crank ( I thinks! )
