I have sent this email to Charles Kennedy after his party decided to attack
peoples right to choose what form of car they use. Also I think what they
say could even incite hatred and all the horrors that comes with that to
people driving 4x4's. Below is the text that I have sent him. I have sent
the mail on the 26th of September and as yet have not had a reply.

_______________________________________________________

I have also sent a copy of this Letter to The SUN, My Local Press
(Newcastle) and Some Motoring Press.

I am a little disappointed in your clearly ill informed attack on 4x4 motor
vehicles which did sound like political point scoring. Please read on and
see if you can really disprove my points enough for me to sell my 4x4.

Most 4x4 are no bigger than people carriers so will they be banded from the
roads for the same reasons of taking up to much road space and using more
fuel than say push bike. Again most 4x4 are no longer or wider than an
executive size car these being BMW 5 series and above as well as most
Mercedes models, also most of these cars have big thirsty petrol engines
like 6 cylinders and heaven forbid V6 and V8 engines.

Sports cars also are not really renowned for their fuel efficiency and most
of these have massive wheels and expensive tyres, and by the inherent nature
of the cars they can only carry 2 people, surely these must also be very
inefficient modes of transport.

So don't just propose to ban 4x4's be proud of your convictions and ban 4x4's,
People carriers, executive cars and sports cars.

But wait we can take this to the next logical step. Make all new cars have
engines no bigger than say 600cc, I think this already works in Japan, so
that could be an excuse for a little political jolly (sorry fact finding
mission) if you get to run the country after the next election.

Here are some other equally well thought out ideas that you could include in
your parties manifesto.

How about proposing that all new cars must be approved by the local planning
department* and the right to own a car could be decided on say: -

1 Do you live on or near a Bus route, if yes then you can't have a car.

2 Do you have somewhere to park the car off the public highway if no then
you can't have a car.

3 Will the car be mostly used by one person, if yes then you can have a
scooter.

4 Do any of your neighbours have a car, that perhaps you could share**

5 If the answer to 3 is no, then you might be allowed to own a small 2
seater 600cc (not a sports car)

* A large fee would have to be paid which would go towards improving public
transport ;)

**remember electronics records could be checked and your neighbour could be
forced to share their car if you proceeded with this request.

Oh and one last thing on my Journey to work this morning I had to sit behind
a bus doing 20mph, it had only 4 people on it and no one else was waiting at
any of the bus stops that it crawled past, the driver had to stick to a
timetable after all so he was not going to arrive anywhere early hence the
20mph maximum speed. It would be more economical to make the bus driver stop
and ask the people to get off and wait for the next bus so he could go back
to the depot and try again later. I had time to work out that my 4x4 was
being more efficient as 20% of my car seats where occupied and there was
only me in the car.

Oh and I count myself as one of those floating voters, just the type you
should be aiming your policies at.

London (type) taxis are similar in size to many 4x4s and often carry an
average of only 0.5 passengers - i.e. one passenger to their destination and
zero passengers on the return. An obvious candidate for a ban. :)

Cheers

It was a suggestion that has already been passed by - but let's be honest -
you are more likely to use more fuel (FULL TIME 4x4s are less efficient - If
you disagree then you are stupid / don't understand)

Even the new Volvo XC90 is also more likely to kill the other driver in an
accident - driving around Surrey/Altn I only see f****** daft c*** s
driving their kids to skool - more intersested in their kids in the back /
radio/ make up doing their best to look forward which means they don't know
where they are on the road so they cut corners - I drive (drove) an MX5 this
summer - economical etcetc but have decided only because of the daft cows to
get an AWD Volvo V70.

I also had an 1800cc saloon but because of traffic got a 2.0 auto now I'm
getting a Volvo 2.4/5 auto as the others on the road are bleeding dangerous

Not sure if thats what the DVLA/ bleedin K Livingstone had in mind!
(thogh I admit i'll only take my own car up to london at the weekend

I wonder if the Lib Dems actually know what they mean by a 4x4? Is an Audi
quattro or a Subaru Imprezza a 4x4? What about the new Bentley Continental?
Is a Mitsubishi Shogun or a Jeep Cherokee a 4x4, as they can select 2 and
4WD on the move? Are people living in the countryside to be treated the same
as those in the city? Whereas the former may have a very good reason to own
a 4x4, the latter may have less of a case.

If a 4x4 uses more fuel than a conventional car then the owner pays more tax
at the fuel pump. Why complicate things with extra taxes? How are DVLA to
decide what is a 4x4 as the V5 doesn't state this.

Don't worry about it. They'll never be in power!

I was out working on my Trooper getting it nice before I sell up and the
LibDim canvassers hove in to view posting leaflets. When he got down our
drive he sent a young girl (early teens) to hand me a leaflet. I didn't
realise what it was ( under car looking up)
but you would of thought he would have had the brass balls to hand it over
personally rather than send a kid round and we used to call Liberals wishy
washy? this one could sign up for panto.........................
