After doing the husbandy thing yesterday, the wife promised a day out exploring our local area for lanes n such, so we loaded up the Landy with water, tools & 20 litres of prime veg oil and we went.
To start with we decided to do a little lane that i had found on Sunday, i've done it twice now, nothing major, about 1/2 mile long with a real steep downhill part at the end, but i wanted to do it backwards, so going uphill this time.
All went well and i took a vid from the cab, if you can stand the jiggling about ( lane starts on the right hand turn ) feel free to view:

After this, we headed along some lanes and came out at a spot we have frequented in the past, both in the Landy and a few years ago on our boat. Feeling good about things, i drove onto the waters edge ( low tide ) keeping away from the mud flats which cover the estuary, and gingerly took a detour across a small stream onto the other side, then swung around and went back.
This is where it went abit wrong, i had got too much dutch courage at this point and was a little too far out thus i hit a mud pocket as i returned.
Thinking ( or not ) i engaged low and moved on abit more when the ground well n truly gave in and swallowed the NS of the Landy. Jigglying the throttle, Diff lock on i attempted to move off but it wasn't having any of it and i was just burying myself more.

Time to get out and dig myself out as best i could using all manner of local objects to get some traction to the NS wheels. Video shows my efforts

After about 15 minutes i was fortunate to be visited by a couple of local chaps in a transit flatbed who gave me a gently pull until i got all wheels in traction and could drive out of the mess.
I enjoyed the whole experience, i had a close friend in a Pajero not far from me, so if i had of been there an hour or so i woulda called him, but i like to work with what i have, or lack of what i have, to get the result. One thing i'm glad i did do, was purchase a 20T ratchet strap from the car boot the other week, without it the transit wouldn't have been able to assist, so although i was under prepared for the situation, at least i could save some of my pride
I've lived in this area for a fair while and whilst i would never consider driving onto the mud usually, this one caught me abit unaware being so close and deep, usually the depth is apprx 10" as i used to walk out to my boat from here in wellies.
I was abit hot headed in my decision to cross at that point, the first time was oki, but the second was abit daft, and this being my first Landy and no doubt not the last time i'll get stuck somewhere, it was a lesson learnt
Oh and here's a pic of the wife on the dirty Landy who through the whole thing was a great help in holding the camera and lauging as much as possible....lovely
