Hi mate
Nice to see some one getting there hands oilly lol.....But you do know the LR saying.............They don't leck they mark there territory
Good luck

Ah the romance, today I have replaced the oil seal on the input shaft of the steering box, with the box in place and washed her. Also got the idle speed back down to normal and adjusted the slack out of the steering. Arrived home and an hour later no drips! Happy man!

Well my steering box seal lasted 1 month and has now completely sh*t itself, typical as I spent yesterday waxoiling it and today got the tracking sorted and brought 20L of 10 - 40w, new rear pads and a air filter. Had just collected the missus and my son, gotten takeaway and then all of a sudden no power steering and its all leaked from the input seal almost instantly....gutted.

New box is only way forward in most cases. You could try a good used one or a recon. When they leak im pretty sure they are very hard to stop with just new seals

I rekon you are right, going to remove the old seal today and see what happend hopefully. Problem is funds are tight now, am wondering if it is possible to buy a better seal direct from land rover or a hydraulic shop. Otherwise its £50 for a used box, not to mention the lost work....It's abit of a coincidence that the seal gave away soon after the garage man had been hammering the crap out of the steering arm to get it loose enough to adjust, but it was not excessive and I also drove over a large turf sod at speed that a lorry had dragged into the road, but barley felt it even though it was big. Everything was going so well no drips at all since it was replaced. Maybe the circlip wasn't seated properly and its just needs putting back in, that would be good!!

Ok so went for new seals again. Genuine LR parts this time. When I stripped it I could see that the seal was leaking where it met the body of the box, possibly encouraged by a score after I removed the old seal but no visual confirmation due to a lack access. Anyway new LR seal in place along with some tiger seal and so far so good. Fingers crossed again. Now for the throttle spindle o-ring and bush ...
