Hey folks. D2 TD5, 2001. It's been laid up a few months, and it seemed like there were some drain on the battery so it died. Disconnected it, recharged it, reconnected again.

However, central locking isn't working, nor ignition, even the radio/lights. The clock is working though - suggesting I reconnected it properly? Does the battery need to be left connected for a while to work again?

You question if you reconnected it properly, Why???

Are you sure the battery is fully charged? what voltage does it have?

Cheers

Hey, the battery was fully recharged according to my charger, admittedly it didn't provide a read-out, just a rather old gauge that was at "full".

I was pointing out that the clock was working, so I assume that proves the battery has been recharged and reconnected properly. Just nothing else seems to work.

I would suggest borrowing and connecting another good battery.

If that does not give a good result then time to look deeper.

Cheers

I'd say that as there was a drain on the battery it 'died' such that an older type battery charger might think it's charged, but it won't be. You would do well to try another battery that's absolutely known to be full .. maybe try jump leads to another vehicle that's running.

You might need a new battery or a decent smart charger (I use a CTEK) to resurrect the old .. ;)

Hey folks. The SRS light on the dashboard does come on when I move the key to position 2, but that's the only light on the dashboard that comes on.

The battery is approximately 6 months old. The charger is also about 6 months old. Maybe I didn't charge it enough, I'll stick it back on.

A battery which was left to die completely might not be fit to the job anymore no matter how much you try to recharge it or how new it is, try with a confirmed working battery before you go further cos it can be a difficult diagnose if the problem is elswhere, also if it was locked with fob and lost all the power it's in a immobilised state(provided the immobiliser is not disdabled) so better prepare yourself with the EKA for the case the fob will not unlock

How long did you leave it charging for? The battery needs to charge for a minimum of 24 hours, not just overnight, but maybe a couple or more days! Actually, it doesn't matter how old the battery or charger actually is .. if the battery was drained, and kept draining for a few months as you said, it won't re-charge properly with a standard type charger, you need a smart type or one designed to recharge a fully discharged battery. There's always the chance that as it drained the vehicle now needs re-mobilising using the EKA rather than working from the fob ...

Try it with a known working properly battery, or as said, with jump leads connected to a running vehicle, see if that helps ...

You may be unlucky with jump leads if the battery is that "dead".

I had an AGM battery that would not start , I even had it sat connected to another landy whoch was running for 30 minutes without joy.

Also , the battery was that dead it showed as a fault on my RAC smart charger and required it to be tricked into charging.
