Hi all , I'm trying to change my indicators to led bulbs , but the relay I bought was only 3 pin not 4 ; sadly this means nothing happens at all , no indicators nor hazard lights . Does anyonesell a 4 pin led relay so I can use my new bulbs ? Thanks in advance .

Hi Epicuser , I've fitted a 3 pin led relay , but nothing happens , ie no hazards nor indicators it just buzzed . Very disappointed to say the least .

What is an LED relay?

The standard one works fine with standard bulbs. The LED bulbs probably need more resistance as the current draw is less with LED's.

Yes I believe that is why it needs to be changed ,as with the standard relay they flash very fast . Maybe I should give up and stick with the standard bulbs as I've also tried led brake \side bulbs and only the brake lights work . :-(

I bought the bulbs and resistor from the same company hoping that they would all work together , but apparently not . time for some lateral thinking if its not going to be a waste of time and money .

Load-resistors are only required if you keep the existing relay (that is so the relay senses the same current being drawn), if you don't fit load-resistors then you need an LED relay but as you have discovered, some are 3-pin and other 4-pin. If you want to keep the LED replacement "bulbs" (which shouldn't be used on the road by the way) then you will need the 4-pin relay.
Using LED "bulbs" in the existing light unit could result in the vehicle failing the MOT (some get away with it and others don't, it all depends on how bright the LED's are and how thorough the MOT tester is). Purpose made replacement LED lights which are E-marked are fine which is why you see so many on Defenders (like mine), bit more difficult for Freelanders because as far as I am aware nobody makes replacement LED lights.
