Does anyone know which flasher unit you need if you've replaced the bulbs in your indicators with LEDs? Its a 1996 Defender van with the towing pack (which may or may not be relevant - not sure).

The four pin units I have seen have pin 4 rather than pin 3 - i.e. they have

49a
31 4 49

rather than the unit I have which is:

49a
31 49
3

Anyone solved this problem?

Thanks.

Jon

Surely the people who supplied the LED's have a unit and instructions to hook 'em all up?

Sadly not - which has lead to a series of rants. I've rung them up (I bought a flasher unit off them) and they offer no technical advice or assistance for any of their automotive products (Ultra LEDs), cannot tell me who supply the unit so I could ask them and are unable to disclose any information about where I might find information on the product. The only option is to return it to them, which in my view is pretty shabby all in all.

It does however still leave me with very fast flashing indicators! There is probably a unit out there that is just plug and play which I'm sure someone has found - I just need to know what it is.

Helpful Paul - thanks ;-)

I think when something is advertised on the LED site as curing fast flashing LED indicators when LED bulbs are installed, one is entitled to rely on that??

I bought an LED light kit from Bolt On Bits and the relay came with the kit. You should call them on 01274 688 388 and see if they will sell you one.

Now even with the relay you may still have problems, this is because the LED's use so little power the relay cannot detect the load correctly (more of a problem with old vehicles with crapped out wiring systems) so you may need one of these: Land Rover Defender 90 LED Load Resistor - A - Discount LED Load Resistor | DriveWire.com

Alternately if you want to be cheap you could just keep your incanscent bulbs and mount them inside the wings where they cannot be seen, you can then wire up the LED's and both bulbs will flash (but only the LED's will be visible having been mounted externally).

Bolt on Bits should be able to sell you a load resistor, once again thats where I got mine from.

Good luck

Bolt on bits do a 4 pin plug and play unit for the land rover which is a direct replacement. Just purchased one. Its apparently 'tuneable' too! The oddity of the landrover is the towing kit apparently which needs another circuit to trigger the towing indicators when a trailer is connected. Probably a patch for the 3 pin if your not bothered about that but of course that would require knowing what the pins are!

Thanks for the help. Subject to delivery they were extremely helpful.
