Having taken out completely my rear sunroof and re siliconed it back in on my 300Tdi Disco which cured that leak it has now started leaking through the glass to frame seal. Land rover do not supply a replacement seal for the tilt and slide type roofs and none of the pattern parts boys have one either! I don't suppose anybody has managed to find someone who can supply them?
Have stopped it for now by massaging silicone grease into the original seal but would really like to replace it .

I thought there were some on ebay for about £30 try searching smoe recent threads on sunroofs. Mine seems to leak into the rooflining and down the front pillar.

i got bored of getting rained on from the interior lights when cornering and just sealed the rear sunroof from outside with a 30year industrial mastic!

seems to have done the trick!

If you have air con the sun roofs are no use anyway. I think I will seal them up too. Mind you I went through a car wash yesterday and despite strong overhead water jets nothing came in. Its a strange one......

Did you leave the rubber seal fitted and just fill the gap between the glass and frame with mastic?
How long has this lasted?

Yes, you can buy replacement seals on ebay. I bought a pair for my TD5 recently and can confirm they work...For now anyway! £23 each plus P&P

I had this once revjames, it was actually coming in from a poorly sealed w/screen, pull the headlining down at the front and put a hose onto the w/screen only not the roof, then see if it comes in.
Its very common when screens have been replaced, cos fitters working on their own have trouble stopping them sliding down once in position with the sealant still wet.;)

That makes sense. The one time when the water came in was afetr a lot of snow. I drove in the snow for hours and it was packed hard around the front of the roof and the windscreen. My guess is that as it melted it came through a poor seal on the screen. I have been through a carwash twice and despite powerful water jets on the roof nothing came in. Hopefully thats it. Would you suggest some silicone?

when i sealed mine it was from the outside only..... sunroof shut and put sealent in the gap between glass and frame AND frame and roof.

mine disco is dark blue and i used a black sealant and you can't actually tell its been done.

just to be safe i removed the sunroof handle on the inside so noone tries to open it!

Sparrowhawk,

I finally found time to fit the new sunroof seals today and it could not have been more simple. Forget silicone, pop on to ebay and buy yourself a new seal, treat it with vaseline, undo 4 torx bolts to release the glass and away you go. It really is simple.

The hardest part was going in to Boots and asking the young lady where the vaseline was...........Ask your wife to buy it for you!!

Same thing happened with me although the sunroofs leaked aswell.
I claimed a new screen with my insurance and it just cost me my excess.
It was a heated screen but the cost to me was still the same.
The sunroofs I sealed carefully with black silicone mastic.
Mine was only on the outer seal tho..where metal meets metal.

Just been to a very nice parts man in Hunters Land Rover at Southampton, If you require a new rubber seal for Mk1 Disco tilt and slide sunroof there is no part listed..... but this seal from a Mk2 disco will fit as its the same. Land Rover Part No. EEQ 500010 ( 68 Df7 A0333671 E0ZTA )
Cost about £11 - £12

I've just had a load of work done on my disco, Both sunroofs out (head lining down etc) resealed against roof, new rubber seals. Service, all transmission oils, egr bypass kit, rocker box seal, water pump gasket and belt, and new rear suspension bushes. Wow ! I had to dig deep for that one.

Got any spare change sir ?
