My 4 bolt steering box is leaking from the bottom at the shaft its in my lightweight and i beleive it came from an old range rover ,would any 4 bolt box fit ?

What are my options ,could it be repaired at home or s the shaft likley to be worn ? good secondhand ? there are recon exchange boxes on ebay for between £150 - £250 has anyone had any experience with them ?

I got an exchange recon off eBay and it's been brilliant

I rebuilt the steering box in my 1990 Disco about 10 years ago with a new seal kit following the instructions in the Haynes Range Rover manual (the Discovery manual said it can't be done) and it's been fine ever since. It is a bit of a faff but you could always check the procedure in the Range Rover manual first to see if it is something you want to do yourself - replacement box is much simpler and quicker though :)

I dont mind rebuilding it as i feel im up to it just didnt want to buy the kit and take the time to fit it only to have it leak again and need to buy a replacement at a later date

Having looked at my steering box it has 3 bolts in the top not four will the seal kit be stc 2847 same as 4 bolt ?

Mines the same as ebay item 122120231624
