Hi All,

I was wondering if somone might be able to help me solve a water problem with my 300tdi Disco 1.

When it rains I've got water leaking into my disco which pools under the carpet in the front footwells and makes the car constantly damp and smelly.

On the front passenger side, having removed the cardboard/fibre cladding under the glovebox and the plastic panel to the left of it I have managed to identify two 'streams' of water. One appears to come from the top centre and runs down past the electric window ecu and soaking the soundproofing before running down to the floor.

The other path the water seems to be taking is from the top left of the panel behind the front passenger top door hinge. Looking up from the inside with a torch it looks like there is some sort of seal there but the water is running right through/under it.

I havent yet investigated the drivers side in any detail as it doesnt seem leak quite so badly.

So having shared as much info as I was able to obtain myself, my question now is where do I go from here? Are these leaks a common problem with a well known/simple solution ?

Does anyone know how I can stop the leak coming from the top middle and where it's actually originating from? I have opened the bonet and looked along the top and cant see any ovbious broken seals or such like.

As for the leak from the side, is the a common problem also? And what is the best way to fill the gap. Will I need to remove the exteriour aluminium panel between the front passenger door and front left indicator and put some silicone in behind it or is there a better/easier way of attacking this problem ?

Regards,

Dom

ive just found this problem on a discovery im rebuilding. i have cut out and welded all rot i could find so the pool of water in the pass side footwell isnt from where i thought it was comming from !
i have traced it all the way up to the top of the front door seal in the corner near the windscreen and it appears to be comming from the top 'rail' that goes from front to rear (the part the roof attaches to if that makes sence)
i dont think its the sunroof thats leaking and the only thing i can think of its comming in from the alpine windows and traveling to the front and down the front door seal into the pass side footwell. when i trace it ill let ya know where it was comming from :)

my 90 leaks in exactly the same place. almost impossible to seal it, i am currently experimenting with silicone and sticky high memory rubber strips...

I know for certain it aint the sunroof cause it hasnt got any! :)

Parking the car on an incline with the nose up should test the alpine window theory. As far as I know water wont run up-hill.

The most water seemed to be coming down along the metal panel after the door where all the relays are situated (front passenger side)

I removed the outer ali panel on the other side and then siliconed everything i could see beneath it which looked like it had the potential to let water in. I also siliconed the channel beneath the windscreen in case the original sealent had developed hairline cracks.

So having spent a day on this I was pretty confident i'd solved the proplem yet after a bit of rain in the night I was greeted with yet another sizeable puddle of water in the front passenger footwell.

This is really starting to get on my nerves now. Does anyone have any more tips/suggestions ?

Any idea how much it should cost if I was to pay someone who knew what they were doing to put it right ?
